Special attention is paid to the artistic features of the original German texts and the strategy of their transmission by Russian translators Alyosha Prokopiev and Boris Shapiro. The analysis shows that these translations are not just equivalents of the original, but independent bilingual works where visual collages and text interact in new semantic and artistic spaces. The article discusses the key characteristics of Muller’s poetry, such as the lack of punctuation, fragmentation, and motives for death, power, and personal experience, reflecting the historical context of totalitarianism. Translators act as co-authors, creating texts that preserve the original figurative structure and at the same time adapt the narrative to the Russian cultural environment using the techniques of lexical expansion. The visual and semantic features of collages are seen as a means of resisting censorship and repressive government. The study reveals the uniqueness of the translation of visual poetry as an intercultural phenomenon and suggests new approaches to the interpretation and presentation of such literary texts. The translations of Muller’s poetic collages, made in collaboration with translators and publishers, are a unique phenomenon not only of Russian but also of world poetics. The example of the translation of Muller’s German-language visual poetry shows that such a text is almost impossible to completely trace: new meanings, connections, and intertextual shifts arise.</p> Lina Karmolieva Copyright (c) 2025-10-02 2025-10-02 10 1 110 121 Poetic features in S. Dovlatov’s prose https://metamorphosis.hse.ru/article/view/28472 <p>In the article the influence of Sergey Dovlatov’s poetic experience on his prose is studied. The research includes an analysis of poems from the collection ‘‘Army Letters to my Father’’ and an analysis of the author’s early prose, which allows us to identify common features of his poetics in different periods. It is important that the article is partially based on revealing the presence of ‘‘signs of lyrical features’’ identified by M.L. Gasparov. The article reveals Dovlatov’s gradual transition from poetry to prose. The changes can be traced in terms of the rhythm and genre: the author’s early prose texts are more rhythmic than the later ones. The intensified rhythmization of Dovlatov’s early prose is an echo of his poetic experience. At first, the form changes (poetic to prose), but the rhythm stays. Later, Dovlatov uses it less – the strong rhythmization of the text is replaced by new, special writing rules (the author begins all the words of the same sentence with different letters). Thus, Sergey Dovlatov is gradually changing the way to achieve the ‘‘capacity’’ of the text from a more ‘‘lyrical’’ to a more ‘‘prosaic’’ one.</p> Ksenia Ermakova Copyright (c) 2025-10-02 2025-10-02 10 1 27 44
