Abstract

Studies of modernist and postmodern literature express the poetic and philosophical significance of metatext in the concept of metafiction (meta prose). It seems that through the analysis of the metaprose’s communicative structure, the ideological potential of the literary metatext in the postmodern system of meanings can be subjected to critical reflection. Andrey Bitov’s novel «Catechumens» develops the topic of the Writing, which expresses meaningfully and structurally. In our opinion, it is the structure of the narrative that is able to reveal its ideological meaning, given the metafictional setting.
